Join us on January 17, 2023 as we launch RRI’s next five-year Strategic Plan and present the key findings of the Blue Skies Thinking process, a remarkable coalition-wide listening exercise carried out in 2022. We are honored to co-host this dialogue in collaboration with our long-time supporter, the Embassy of Sweden.

Stay tuned in early January 2023 for the full agenda and speaker announcements.

Background

The Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) undertakes a collective process every five years to define the Coalition’s strategy. The development of the Strategic Program is a collective, inclusive process based on inputs from Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendants Peoples, including the women within these groups, and other allies and experts.

As part of the process to develop Strategic Program IV (2023 to 2027), RRI consulted with more than 100 leaders of grassroots networks in 22 countries, representing the voices of men, women, and youth among Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendent Peoples. Contributors spoke of their hopes, fears and dreams for securing and realizing their rights to lands, forests, resources and territories. RRI gathered and documented the common threads from these testimonies, which represent the vision of collective rightsholders for the future.

This half-day hybrid event will bring together people from diverse backgrounds, including a panel of Indigenous, Afro-descendant and local community rightsholders, multilateral institutions, conservation organizations, the private sector, donors and NGOs. It will be a unique opportunity to listen to innovative ideas for strengthening and building new partnerships to shape rights-based conservation and development in 2023 and beyond.
